965 chipsets, the medium-class chipsets of Intel motherboard, have been the
most admitted by the DIY market for more than five months.
I have tested MSI P965 Platinum and Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. Although a bit
late, Id like to share the performance test of ASUS P5B Deluxe.
Lets take a look on the motherboard.
Down-left corner
In series of P5B, only Deluxe use two PCI-E
There are there traditional PCI slots and a SATA slots on the left side.
The copper fin for south bridge
Equipments of an IDE and six SATAII
Slots for memory and the place of 24pin power
Use 8-phase PWM power design
IO part
Dual network and an eSATA-for external SATA products
BIOS Introduction (My LCD has been used for three years. Its going to haven soon.)
Main menu
Special parts
You can choose DDRII 1066 under the default setting of FSB 266Mhz
And it is practical
Voltage setting for memory from 1.80 to 2.45V
Voltage setting for CPU up to 1.7000V
The information page of CPU
The page for DRAM adjusting
The page of temperature and voltage monitoring
Test environment
CPU:INTEL Core 2 Extreme X6800
MB: ASUS P5B Deluxe
DRAM:CORSAIR Dominator TWIN2X2048-8888C4DF
/Patriot DDRII 1000 512MBX2
VGA:ELSA GLADIAC 790GS 256B3 2DT
HD:Seagate 7200.7 80GB
POWER:Corsair HX620W Modular Power Supply
Cooler:TT Sonic Tower
FSB of processor
E6300 could be up to about 470 MHz, and X6800 was stable at 497 MHz
Working on FSB 266 MHz, 1:2=>DDRII 1066 CL4 4-3-9
Super PI 1M and memory bandwidth on the test of EVEREST
DDRII 1066 CL4 4-3-9 2.1V stable
Working on FSB 400 MHz, 2:3=>DDRII 1200 CL4 4-4-9 2.45V
Super PI 1M and memory bandwidth on the test of EVEREST
ASUS P5B Deluxe couldnt reach the FSB 500~550 MHz from some tests on
the internet, but I could understand because overclocking depended on both
CPU and Motherboard. Actually, the motherboard is still good by having this
level of FSB.
On the other hand, it could easily reach up to DDRII 1100~1200 on memory
testing which was hard for 975X MB and other 965 MB.
P5B Deluxe is good at overclocking, materials it used, and functionality.
Although the price is slightly high, P5B Deluxe is still a wonderful choice for
customers who need these functions and have enough budget.
