AMD has now updated its server and workstation CPU line-up with no less than 12 new Opteron models. The 45nm processors are drop-in compatible with current Socket F machines, go from 2.1 to 3.1 GHz in terms of frequency and feature 105W, 75W, 55W and 40W ACP (Average CPU Power) ratings. Playing the energy efficiency card for this release, AMD said that the two 40W ACP parts, the Opteron 2377 EE and 2373 EE provide up to 62% improved performance-per-watt over the previous generation, making them "ideal for cloud computing environments."
