Intel’s upcoming P55 chipset will feature support for the new H1 socket. This is the new socket will be the home of two upcoming CPUs, Lynnfield, a quad-core that is still scheduled to appear in late 2009 and a dual core with IGP inside codenamed Havendale, the one that has to slip in Q1 2010.
The new socket has 1160 pins and this should be enough for the new CPU with a dual DDR3 channel memory controller as both of these CPUs have dual channel DDR3 and not three channel DDR3 as the Bloomfield, Core i7 generation. The whole point of quad core Lynnfield CPU is to make Nehalem architecture more affordable than Core i7.
The P55 is the next level mainstream chipset that will replace P45 and bring Nehalem to the real mainstream. This should happen in very late 2009 and continue through 2010.
