In this 2003, OverclockZone.com is going to return our old concept for our fans, who hungers for hardcore overclocking. Now, we just have done with Intel PentiumIII-S 1.26GHz overclocked to 1.6x Ghz. In this time we use only air cooling system from Alpha, without of water cooler or Liquid Nitrogen.

Intel PentiumIII-S, Tualatin-core with 0.13 micron manufacturing process. The 'S' at end of CPU name stands for it is designed for server/workstation. It has 512k L2 cache and consumes power only 1.45V.

The CPU default value, shown by WCPUID 3.1a.

The BIOS allows us to adjust both of CPU internal freq. and FSB.

Overclock to 1425.00MHz (Use 133:133:33 MHz Ratio)

At the beginning, we simply increased the FSB to 150Mhz, with 9.5 multiplier, the result is 1425.00Mhz internal freq.

PentiumIII 1425.00MHz

Overclock to 1577.00MHz (Use 133:133:33 MHz Ratio)

For 133:133:33 FSB/SDRAM/PCI clock ratio, maximum point of this BIOS version is 166:166:41 but when we adjust to this point, the Windows cannot be started.

Overclock to 1567.50MHz (Use 133:100:33 MHz Ratio)

So, we adjust the ratio to 133:100:33 for more overclocking. Now we show you 165MHz system bus.

1567.50MHz with 165.00MHz system bus. Rock stable.

Overclock to 1681.98MHz !!! (Use 133:100:33 MHz Ratio)

By stepping a system clock up to 177Mhz, The system offers us 1681.98Mhz CPU clock !! And it’s obvious that we have to increase the voltage to 1.70V too, highest of my BIOS can reach.

PentiumIII 1681.98MHz !!!

So poor that the system has lost its stability at 177.05Mhz FSB and 1681.98Mhz internal clock. It can’t be able to run the benchmark at this frequency. So, we had to use 165Mhz FSB and internal-1567.50Mhz instead.

Benchmark Intel PentiumIII-S 1567.50MHz

System
Mainboard ASUS TUSL2-C (BIOS v.1012)
CPU Intel PentiumIII-S 1.26GHz @ 1.58GHz
CPU Cooler Alpha PAL6035
Power Supply Enermax 350W
Memory Corsair XMS PC150 CL2 256MB x2
Harddisk IBM IC35L040AVER07-0
OS Windows XP Pro.

SiSoft Sandra shows our CPU is slightly ahead of Pentium4 1.6Ghz in CPU Arithmetic Benchmark.

But in CPU Multi-Media Benchmark, our PIII-S wins over P4 2.0GHz significantly!

Cache & Memory Benchmark, notice the blue line when the test block go more than 512kB. Even PentiumIII use only SDRAM but it has 512k L2 cache.

Score of 141 from CPUmark99.

It’s been a long time since OverclockZone.com hadn't articles about overclocking. We hope all we have done here is pleased you. There will be more articles about overclocking in hardcore style in this year. Stay tube. : )
